Time to dust off your old record player. The latest figures by the Recording Industry Association of America show that while CD sales are steeply falling, sales of vinyl records are going through the roof.
RIAA's latest midyear roundup of music industry sales show 9.2 million LPs and EPs were purchased by customers in the first half of 2015, a nearly 43 percent increase from the same period last year. By contrast, CD sales dipped from nearly 57 million units in 2014 to 41 million in 2015, a 27 percent drop.
A major reason for the decline in CD sales is the rise of music downloads. Music lovers purchased and downloaded nearly 570 music singles and 57.5 million albums in the first half of the year.
"The data for the first half of 2015 shows a continued healthy diversification of overall revenues, with physical products, digital downloads and streaming each comprising between 24 and 40% of overall revenues," RIAA said in its report. http://bit.ly/1RxYMWn
